Bhagavad Gita Chapter 9
Bhagavad Gita Chapter 9 – Divine Summary (Guhya Raj Vidya Yoga)
The Hidden Knowledge of Kaal Brahm and the Path to the Supreme God
Introduction: The King of Secret Knowledge (Verses 1–2)
In Bhagavad Gita Chapter 9 verses 1–2, the Gita knowledge-giver states that he will reveal the most secret, supreme knowledge, which is the king of all knowledge. By knowing this hidden wisdom, a seeker becomes free from sinful actions and their consequences.
This knowledge is called Raj Vidya Raj Guhyam—royal and extremely confidential—yet easy to practice and capable of giving results. However, as the chapter unfolds, it becomes clear that this knowledge is limited to the realm of Kaal Brahm and does not grant complete liberation.
The Supreme God Is the Support of All Beings (Verses 3–6)
Who Remains in the Cycle of Birth and Death
In verses 3–6, it is stated that if a seeker does not follow the discipline explained in Gita 8:5–10, he remains trapped in the cycle of birth and death.
Kaal Brahm explains:
- All living beings are supported by the Supreme God
- Yet he himself remains separate, residing in Brahm Lok
- He exists distinctly as Mahabrahma, Mahavishnu, and Mahashiv
- The Supreme God (Param Akshar Brahm) alone sustains all beings through His power (Maya)
Kaal Brahm explicitly says:
“I am not present within living beings.”
This aligns with:
- Gita 13:17 and 18:61, where the Gita speaker says the Supreme God resides specially within the hearts of all beings, causing them to move like machines based on their karmas.
Translation of Gita Chapter 9 Verses 3–6 (Key Meaning)
Verse 9:3
Those who do not have faith in this discipline do not attain the Param Akshar Brahm. They attain Kaal Brahm and therefore return again to birth and death.
This confirms:
- Worship of Kaal Brahm does not destroy rebirth
- Liberation through him is inferior (anuttam)
Kaal Brahm Is Invisible but Has Form (Verse 4)
Gita 9:4
Kaal Brahm states:
- The entire universe is pervaded by his avyakt murti (unmanifest but existent form)
- All beings depend on him
- Yet he does not reside within them
Special Point: “Avyakt” does not mean formless. It means hidden. Thus, Kaal Brahm is concealed but corporeal, not formless.
The Supreme God Is Separate from Kaal (Verse 5)
Kaal Brahm explains:
- Living beings are not actually situated within him
- The Supreme God, who creates and sustains all beings, also does not reside within creatures
- Kaal Brahm remains in Brahm Lok
- The Supreme God resides eternally in Satlok
- His invisible power governs all universes
Three Invisible (Avyakt) Entities Explained
As described in Gita 15:16–17, there are three Purush and correspondingly three Avyakt:
- Kshar Purush (Kaal Brahm) – Gita knowledge-giver (Described in Gita 7:24–25, 9:4)
- Akshar Purush – Immortal but bound (Described in Gita 8:18–19)
- Param Akshar Brahm (Uttam Purush) – Supreme God (Described in Gita 8:20–22, 15:17)
Worship of Kaal Brahm Guarantees Birth and Death (Verse 7)
Kaal Brahm contradicts his earlier claims by admitting in verse 7:
- At the end of every Kalp, all beings dissolve into his nature
- At the beginning of creation, he recreates them
This proves:
- No soul escapes rebirth through Kaal’s worship
- Confirmed by Gita 8:16, where all realms up to Brahm Lok are said to be recurrent
Hence, Kaal Brahm himself calls the liberation he grants inferior (Gita 7:18).
Creation Through Prakriti and Kaal (Verses 8–10)
- Kaal Brahm repeatedly creates beings by uniting with Prakriti (Devi Durga)
- Souls are forced into creation due to desire-driven nature
- Kaal claims he is not bound by karmas because karma originates from him
In Gita 9:10, Durga (Prakriti) creates the moving and unmoving universe under Kaal’s control, perpetuating the cycle of birth and death.
Kaal Brahm Never Appears in a Gross Human Body (Verse 11)
Gita 9:11
Kaal Brahm states that ignorant people think:
- He takes birth as a human
- He is Krishna
He clarifies:
- He is not Krishna
- He does not incarnate in a physical body
- He is not Maheshwar
- The true Maheshwar is Param Akshar Brahm
Thus, Krishna was only a medium, not the speaker.
The Fate of Kaal Worshippers (Verses 12–19)
- Many worshippers remain engaged in addictions, violence, and ignorance
- Others worship Kaal through Vedic rituals, chanting, sacrifices, and austerities
- Even disciplined devotees who chant Om and praise Kaal ultimately become his food
Proof: In Gita Chapter 11 verse 21, Arjun witnesses Kaal devouring gods, sages, and worshippers alike.
Result of Vedic Worship: Heaven, Not Liberation (Verses 20–21)
Gita 9:20–21
- Worship based on the three Vedas grants Swarg or Maha-Swarg
- After enjoying merits, souls return to Earth
- This worship does not destroy sins
- Rebirth into 84 lakh life forms continues
Complete liberation is impossible without the three true mantras revealed by a Tatvdarshi Saint.
Worship of Other Gods, Ancestors, and Spirits (Verses 23–25)
Gita 9:23–24
- Worship of other gods is actually worship of Kaal
- But it is against scriptural method
- Kaal alone consumes all sacrificial offerings
Gita 9:25
- Worshippers of gods go to gods
- Worshippers of ancestors become ancestors
- Worshippers of spirits become spirits
- Worshippers of Kaal reach Kaal—but do not attain liberation
This establishes that Shraddh, ancestor worship, and spirit worship block liberation.
Why Non-Scriptural Worship Is Dangerous
Just as obeying a police officer against the constitution leads to punishment, following Puranic or traditional practices against the Gita and Vedas leads to suffering.
Scriptural proof:
- Gita 16:23–24 clearly forbids worship against scripture
Addictions and Devotion Cannot Coexist
Consumption of:
- Alcohol
- Tobacco
- Meat
Blocks the subtle spiritual channel (Sushumna Nadi) required for God realization. Human birth is meant only for attaining the Supreme God, not indulgence.
Even a Great Sinner Can Improve (Verses 30–31)
A highly immoral person who sincerely turns toward devotion:
- Becomes worthy of respect
- Improves quickly through satsang
- But without true knowledge, remains bound to Kaal’s realm
Complete liberation still requires worship of Param Akshar Brahm.
Final Teaching of Chapter 9 (Verses 32–34)
- All castes and genders can worship
- Worship of Kaal leads only to temporary relief
- Kaal Lok is perishable and sorrow-filled
- True freedom lies beyond Kaal
Therefore:
Seek a Tatvdarshi Saint Learn the true method of worship Attain Satlok, the eternal abode (Confirmed in Gita 4:34 and 18:62)
Conclusion: Why the Supreme God Alone Grants Liberation
Kaal Brahm himself admits:
- His liberation is inferior
- His worship does not end rebirth
- The Supreme God is higher than him
Thus, only the worship of Param Akshar Brahm, taught by a Tatvdarshi Saint, grants:
- Complete liberation
- Destruction of sins
- Eternal peace in Satlok
