Bhagavad Gita Chapter 10
Divine Summary – Chapter 10
Verse 1:
In Chapter 10, Verse 1, it is said: “O Mighty-Armed Arjun! Listen to My divine and immortal words, which I shall now speak for your benefit, because you are My beloved devotee.”
Evidence of the Origin of Brahm (Kaal)
In Chapter 10, Verse 2, it is stated: “Arjun, neither the gods nor the great sages know My origin (birth), because all of them have arisen from Me.”
From this, it is self-evident that Brahm (Kaal) has indeed taken birth, but the gods and sages do not know about it. Just as children cannot explain the origin of their father, but the grandfather can, similarly, all gods and sages in the twenty-one universes have originated from the union of Jyoti Niranjan (Brahm/Kaal) and Prakriti (Durga). Therefore, Kaal says that no one in the twenty-one universes knows His origin, because all have originated from Him.
Only the Complete Brahm (Supreme God) can explain the origin of Kaal (Brahm), because Brahm (Kaal) originated from Param Akshar Brahm (the Complete Supreme God). This is directly proven in Bhagavad Gita Chapter 3, Verses 14–15, which describe the origin of Brahm.
Proof of Birth and Death of the Gita Speaker
It is also clearly stated in Gita Chapter 2, Verse 12 and Chapter 4, Verses 5–9 that the Gita knowledge-giver himself undergoes birth and death. Therefore, he also exists in a form. Otherwise, Shri Krishna was standing physically in front of Arjun and could not have said, “I am unborn and eternal.”
Thus, this invisible Brahm (Kaal) spoke through Shri Krishna and revealed his true status and position in the form of the Gita.
Translation of Chapter 10, Verse 3
“One who knows Me (Brahm) in essence as beginningless (anadim), unborn (not taking form), and as the great lord of Kaal Lok—such a person among mortals is truly wise, that is, a Tatvadarshi Saint. Such a saint provides correct scriptural knowledge as stated in all three Vedas (Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda) and gives correct understanding of sins. By worshipping the Complete Supreme God, that person attains freedom from all sins.”
In Gita Chapter 15, Verse 17, it is stated that the Complete Supreme God is someone else, who is imperishable and who enters all the three worlds and sustains everyone.
In Gita Chapter 15, Verse 18, it is said: “I (Kaal) am called Purushottam only because, within the twenty-one universes under my control, I am superior to perishable beings with physical bodies and to imperishable souls trapped in my domain.”
Thus, based on hearsay and worldly understanding, Kaal is called Purushottam, but in reality, the true imperishable sustainer is Param Akshar Brahm.
Proof from Chapter 3, Verses 14–15
“All living beings are born from food, food comes from rain, rain comes from yajna, yajna comes from righteous actions, actions originate from Brahm, and Brahm originates from the imperishable Supreme God.”
That imperishable, all-pervading Supreme God is truly established in yajnas, is worthy of worship in yajnas, and gives the fruits of yajnas. In reality, He alone is Adhiyajna.
Confirmation That Kaal Is Born
In Gita Chapter 10, Verse 2, it is again stated that no sages or gods know Kaal’s origin. This conclusively proves that Kaal (Brahm) is also created.
Meaning of Chapter 10, Verses 4–6
In these verses, Kaal Brahm states that all beings under his domain are made to act by him, because the mind is a part of Kaal. Kaal has installed the mind as a kind of software in all beings, through which he influences them.
Therefore, Kaal says that intellect, knowledge, freedom from doubt, forgiveness, compassion, truthfulness, control of the senses, restraint of the mind, happiness and sorrow, creation and destruction, fear and fearlessness, non-violence, contentment, charity, fame, and infamy—all arise from him.
For example, Arjun was given glory in the Mahabharata war, but later suffered humiliation by being killed by forest-dwellers. All this deception is performed by Kaal, not by the compassionate Supreme God.
Verse 6 Explained
The seven great sages (Saptarishis), the four Sanakadi sages (Sanak, Sanandan, Sanat, Sanatan), and the fourteen Manus, including Swayambhu Manu, were all born from the resolve of Kaal Brahm. Therefore, all beings in the twenty-one universes belong to him.
Thus, these sages do not know the origin (birth) of Kaal Brahm.
A Complete Knower Worships Only the Supreme God
The meaning of Chapter 10, Verse 7 is that one who truly understands Kaal’s power and yogic influence becomes firmly established in unwavering devotion.
Those who understand that Kaal is only superior to perishable bodies and trapped souls—but that the true Purushottam is someone else—worship the Complete Supreme God with unwavering faith.
Origin of Scriptures from Brahm (Kaal)
In Chapter 10, Verse 8, it is stated that those who do not meet a Tatvadarshi Saint believe that Kaal is the originator of all scriptural rules. This belief arises because the four Vedas were created by Brahm (Kaal) and contain the mantra Om and yajnas, which give only the fruits of Brahm.
Therefore, such seekers worship Brahm (Kaal) based on the Vedas and consider him the creator of the universe.
Devotees of Brahm Remain Bound to Him
In Chapter 10, Verse 9, it is explained that those who lack a complete, enlightened Saint remain absorbed in the scriptures created by Kaal, delight in discussions about him, and stay mentally attached to him. Kaal himself grants them such intellect so that they remain trapped in his web.
In Verse 10, it is said that Kaal clouds their intellect with ignorance so that they continue to attain only him.
Verse 11: Kaal Speaks from Within Beings
In Verse 11, Kaal says that, out of mercy, he destroys ignorance by entering beings in an atma-bhav (soul-like manner). Just as a ghost enters a body and speaks, appearing as if the person is speaking, similarly, Brahm entered the body of Shri Krishna and delivered the Gita knowledge. This is confirmed in Gita Chapter 7, Verses 24–25.
Kaal states that he enters devotees and reveals the truth—that the real, imperishable, unborn Supreme God is someone else, not himself. Those who then worship that Supreme God do not take rebirth.
Scriptural Proofs of Another Supreme God
This is supported by many verses, including:
- Gita 8:3, 8–10, 20–22
- Gita 2:17
- Gita 18:46, 61, 62
- Gita 15:1–6, 16–18
- Entire Chapter 13
- Gita 5:14–26
All of these verses direct worship toward another Supreme God, distinct from Kaal.
Destruction at the End of a Kalpa
At the end of a Kalpa, when Kaal performs destruction, even those who attain heaven or great heaven are destroyed and re-enter the cycle of birth and death. This proves they are not completely liberated. (Proof: Gita 8:16, Gita 9:7)
Arjun’s Praise and Kaal’s Deception
In Verses 12–18, Arjun praises Kaal as unborn and supreme. In Verse 14, Arjun asks how to worship him.
In Verse 20, Kaal says he is the soul in all beings and the cause of birth, death, happiness, and sorrow. He declares himself present in all beings—from animals to gods—secretly tormenting all through his power.
In Verses 21–42, Kaal claims to be the chief among all beings—lion among animals, Garuda among birds, deception and gambling itself—revealing that he is the cause of suffering in all twenty-one universes.
He declares that he alone makes the entire world dance under his control.
Important Note
Kaal Brahm exaggerates his glory in this chapter. In Gita Chapter 15, Verse 4, seekers are instructed to search for the Supreme Abode, reaching which one never returns. In Chapter 15, Verse 17, it is clearly stated that the true Purushottam is someone else, the imperishable Supreme God who sustains all worlds.
In Gita Chapter 18, Verse 62, it is said: “Take refuge in that Supreme God with all your being. By His grace, you shall attain eternal peace and the everlasting abode.”
Thus, in Chapter 10, Verses 40–42, Kaal is merely deceiving Arjun through fear.
Why Does Kaal Speak Some Truth?
One may wonder: if Kaal lies, why is any Gita knowledge true?
The reasons are:
- He presents himself as an ocean of knowledge.
- Vedic knowledge already exists; complete contradiction would expose him.
- Even Kaal is under the control of the Supreme God, who made him declare, “I am Kaal” (Gita 11:32).
Evidence from Sukshma Veda (Garibdas Ji)
Sant Garibdas Ji says:
“Jyoti-swaroopi says Niranjan: ‘I alone am the doer.’ One doer did not remain, two did not remain—nine were established. The tenth will also perish; witness Sat Kabir.”
Meaning: Kaal claims to be the creator. The nine incarnations perished; the tenth will also perish. Only Kabir Sahib is the true Creator, Sustainer, and Supreme Lord.
Kabir Sahib further says:
“Omkar is certain, but do not consider him the Creator. The true Word of Kabir is hidden—recognize it through a Saint.”
Meaning: Om is the mantra of Kaal. Do not consider Kaal the Creator. The true mantra of liberation is given secretly by a True Saint, who reveals that the Master of all is other than Kaal Brahm.
